Welcome to our house, which boasts some of the richest and most interesting history in Ontario. The present house was completed in 1822 on the approximate site of the original log cabin to which Joseph Siverthorn brought his bride, Jane Chisholm. The Silverthorns raised twelve children in the home, which stayed in the family for a century. The name Cherry Hill came, appropriately, from the lush grove of Cherry trees that flanked the driveway and the surrounding property. In 1973, the house was threatened with being demolished, until a developer moved it from its original location: at the corner of Dundas and Cawthra, to where it now stands, just a few hundred yards to the north (Photographs of the move adorn the walls of our foyer). The house was completely renovated and restored to its original appearance and, in 1979, on the eve of Halloween, it was opened to the public as Cherry Hill House Restaurant. The lower level was then converted into a truly authentic British-style pub.
Guerrino Staropoli, award-winning chef and the owner of Cherry Hill House, takes immense pride in preparing meals that entice your taste buds. The creation and presentation of each dish is approached with the same care and detail that is bestowed upon the finest works of art. Savour our regular menu of Northern Italian and French delicacies and be delightfully surprised every time you return for the Chef's daily creations and special features. Throughout the year, Cherry Hill celebrates popular holidays with imaginative menus food presentations which capture the unique charm of each holiday.
Whether you're planning an intimate dinner for two or a spirited gathering of friends and family, Cherry Hill House offers the perfect setting. Experience all the charm of our elegant country home in one of its many warm and intimate dining rooms. Two of the rooms have log-burning fireplaces and all can be booked for private functions. Whether it's a birthday party, wedding reception, business banquet or client presentation you will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience. We also have a licensed outdoor veranda and a beautiful front lawn where you can begin your function with cocktails during the warm-weather months. We are open Monday to Friday for both lunch and dinner, and dinner only on Saturday and Sunday. Don't forget His Grace, The Duke of Marlborough Pub Our pub downstairs is the ideal spot to enjoy sporting events on our large-screen TV in the company of friends and your favourite imported draught. The menu features all the typical pub grub, which is served in authentic British surroundings. In fact, all the furnishings, counters, decorations and even the flagstone floors were imported from England where the interior of an actual pub was disassembled and rebuilt here as The Duke of Marlborough. We urge you to call and inquire about special event Saturdays, when we host live bands and karaoke nights. Occasionally, we're even treated to an improvised amateur night when patrons bring along a guitar or take a turn on our piano! Once again, you also have the opportunity to enjoy the warm summer days and cool summer nights on our large outdoor patio.
